Everyone needs a Key holder
This is the vision I had in mind for my colourful drawings as I was creating them. I like things to have a purpose as well as being pretty and cheery so that's what the challenge was, to incorporate my pencil drawings into these key holders. I loved this challenge and the ideas came very easily once I set myself on the right track, that's what being an artist is all about and you discover so much about you.
I found it difficult to shoot these, I couldn't seem to find the right angle or lighting to display it's true function and brightness (I always see things differently in my mind) but I think you will get the idea.

It was also challenge to find a printer who could get the colour just the way I wanted it with the right paper but that's the fun part, trying new projects and learning so much more than just a new drawing technique. It's the journey, right, not the destination.
Now I have to figure out how I will ship them from my Etsy shoppe.

We All Need Growth
This is drawing number four if you don't count the colourful page of polka dots I did for bookmarks, now that was fun. The tricky part is trying to print them, I find it very difficult to match the intensity and richness of the pure coloured pencil, this is my undoing as it frustrates me to no end, I may have to engage the assistance of an outside source.
I have been trying to create an original drawing a week, it's not as easy at it sounds but I think if you make it fun...well that's half the battle...art should be fun, for the viewer as well as the creator. This one is for all the gardeners out there...myself included.

Are you seeing Dots?
I was riding of wave of dots last week. For some reason polka dots were on my mind and I have been including them somewhere in these new pieces I've been working on. Something about them is so cheery I think they will make excellent book marks that's why I drew a whole sheet of them. Again I don't think my scans do the colours justice but I will rectify that shortly, hopefully this week.
There is something about bright colours as well that can lift ones spirit and I think we can all use a little of that in our day. I'm hoping these bookmarks will lift your spirit, if you would like one just drop me a line and I'll send one out to you.

From My 'Home' to yours
Drawing number three came very easily, again the idea was in my head when I woke up one morning, I love when that happens it's so exciting I can hardly wait to get it down on paper. I was asked recently what medium I've used...it's coloured pencil, that's what I do I think it's just great when people think it's paint, that means I've achieved my goal.. I wanted to see if it was possible to achieve bright, intense colours blended and merged with each other...they worked perfectly and something you can't see is the shiny wax finish...just lovely. Coloured pencils continue to amaze me and that's no small feat considering I've been using them for over 25 years.
This is going to be a key holder, I think appropriately, I will show you when it's complete. I was so excited to show you the finished drawing I couldn't wait. It will soon be a card as well.
Colourful 'Friends'
This is the second drawing that came to me, the colours just appeared in my mind after I had worked out the design the night before during a sleepless night. I often get my ideas while I sleep which I hear a lot of artists do as well. Not sure why, possibly that is when our minds are free to roam the vast spaces of our psyche with ease...no blocks put up by reason.
I don't think the scan does the colours justice they are much more vibrant in the flesh. This drawing measures 7.5 x 7.5 inches like the 'Love' drawing I find it a very manageable size for working and printing.
I plan to print these as 5x5 inch cards with handmade chartreuse envelopes...I just couldn't find the right sized envelopes or colour, so when that happens, make your own. Look for them at my Etsy Shoppe very soon.

My First Artful 'Love'
I've been wanting to change up my drawings a little, to use more colour and to have my drawings be more whimsical and free. It's something I've been thinking about for quite a while now and is very different from anything I have done in the past.
I'm not sure that I have the colour calibrated just right but I'll work on that, the letters should be more of a deep fuchsia, it could be my computer. I love the way my colours turned out and I know these drawings will evolve as I explore more colour.
It's very interesting to me how some colours blend a little easier than others, are more greasy and intense in their hue but that's what I'm attempting to discover with the colourful journey...this Artful Room.
In future posts I'll tell you about my carpal tunnel problems, my thumb going numb from using the pencil for long periods and things you can do to help alleviate.
These drawings measure 7.5 x 7.5 in which I used Prismacolor coloured pencils on smooth Strathmore drawing stock. I planning to reproduce these as cards, prints and something else that I'm still working out the details on so you will just have to pop back to see for yourself at a later date.
